Sketchbook Workshop - Supply List

Tara Larsen Chang

PLEASE don't feel like you need to get a bunch of new things - the links are just suggestions. This is what I use – however, you are free to show up with your own favorite sketchbook supplies and what you have on hand, and we’ll take it from there!

My current favorite sketchbook is the Stillman & Birn Delta Series, which has a mixed media paper – 5 ½ x 8 /12 size (either white, or ivory). You can use any mixed media type of paper (ask, if you have questions about what would be appropriate).

I do my initial drawings and layout with a .5 mm mechanical pencil (Zebra is my favorite brand).

Kneaded eraser

Assorted hard white erasers (Tombo Mono zero is a good one for tiny areas)

Waterproof pens (my favorite are assorted sizes of Copic multiliners)

Coloring media (I primarily use watercolor, but you can use colored pencils, or markers or other favorite coloring medium of your choice)

If you’d like to utilize collage, you’ll need a good pair of scissors, tweezers, and a glue stick. We recommend gel matt medium as an adhesive and sealer (since you can also ink or paint on top of it) along with a flat brush and container for water if you want to get fancy, but if you have another favorite glue, that is fine. You’ll also want an assortment of paper - wrapping paper, scrapbook paper, magazines, rubber stamps, - whatever you’d like to work with. A couple more options - acid free tape, double stick tape, photo corners.

Optional:

A small ruler

A small triangle (think “basic school geometry set”)

Calligraphy pens – assorted sizes

Your smart phone – to photograph and email your project as needed
